A 20-year-old suspected serial killer, Umar Auwal, also known as ‘Abba Dujal,’ has voluntarily surrendered to the Kano State Police Command, confessing to a string of violent crimes across Kano and Jigawa States.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Kiyawa, Auwal turned himself in following intensified police crackdowns on criminal hideouts. His surrender, authorities say, comes amid broader security operations aimed at restoring public safety in the region.

The suspect, who hails from Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State, confessed to multiple cases of culpable homicide, armed robbery, and theft. Among his admissions was the fatal stabbing of a man known as ‘Boka’ in the Sabon Gari Quarters of Kano, from whom he stole an Infinix Hot 40i smartphone, later sold for ₦40,000.

He also revealed details of another murder in Kurna Quarters, where he killed a man and sold his Samsung S26 phone for ₦160,000. In a separate incident in Ringim, Jigawa State, Auwal said he murdered a victim and sold the stolen motorcycle for ₦300,000.

SP Kiyawa confirmed that Auwal is currently in custody at the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where detectives are working to verify his confessions and uncover any possible accomplices or additional victims.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, commended Auwal’s decision to surrender and urged other criminals to emulate his step, pledging the Command’s continued dedication to ridding Kano of criminal elements.

The police also called on residents to support security agencies by providing credible information to aid in combating crime and maintaining law and order across the state.
