Residents of Kole-Olufana, and surrounding areas in Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan have been gripped by tension following allegations of homosexuality involving two individuals, Ahmed Owolabi and Stephen Femi Omoloso.

The situation reportedly began on Christmas Eve after claims circulated within the community regarding same-sex relationship between the two men, who are known locally as close associates. The allegations gained attention after a compromising photo found on one of the individuals’ phone was shared among residents.

Earlier, Ahmed Owolabi was reportedly confronted by some youths in the area over a separate allegation over an illicit interaction with a minor. The incident led to a disturbance before community leaders and elders intervened to restore calm and prevent further escalation.

Local leaders have since urged residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and allow police to handle the matter. There are also reports that the Community Development Association (CDA) is reviewing tenancy and security measures within the area, including calls for improved documentation of residents by landlords and agents.

As of the time of this report, the police is yet to issue any official statement confirming charges against the individuals. In Nigeria, same-sex relationship is a crime attracting up to 14 years imprisonment. However, concerned authorities are expected to investigate the allegations diligently and ensure that due process is followed.
