Despite Governance Failures, Edo Governor Deserves Commendation for Fight Against Kidnapping — Adeyanju
Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has commended the Edo State Governor for his administration’s efforts to combat kidnapping, despite his persistent criticism of the governor’s style of governance.
Adeyanju, who said he remained opposed to what he described as the governor’s failed governance approach, acknowledged the administration’s firm stance against kidnapping, particularly its efforts to identify and prosecute suspected kidnappers and demolish properties and hideouts allegedly linked to criminal activities.
He noted that such measures sent a strong message that kidnapping and other violent crimes would not be tolerated in the state.
However, Adeyanju urged the governor to intensify the campaign by strengthening preventive security measures across Edo State.
He specifically called for the effective deployment of community policing structures at the ward and local government levels to enable residents to provide timely intelligence and support security agencies in identifying and preventing criminal activities.
According to him, empowering communities to participate actively in intelligence gathering and crime prevention would help tackle kidnapping before it occurs.
Adeyanju maintained that while he remained critical of the governor’s overall performance, efforts aimed at protecting lives and property deserved recognition and should be sustained.
