Ogun 2027: Allies Raise Over N1bn for Yayi’s Governorship Bid

Senator regrets backing Dapo Abiodun in 2019, says: “If I knew it would be like this, I would not have dragged any position in Ogun”

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has reportedly expressed frustration over the political developments in Ogun State, lamenting that actions previously carried out behind the scenes are now coming into the open.

The Senator representing Ogun West was quoted in a statement currently circulating across political platforms in the state as saying that “nothing is hidden in this world,” particularly in politics, as previously undisclosed activities are increasingly being exposed.

«“Nothing is hidden in this world, even in this politics we are playing. I am surprised how everything we do in hidden is getting exposed everywhere and every day,” he was quoted as saying.»

The reported remarks come amid heightened political manoeuvring in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections, with old alliances, political decisions and relationships coming under renewed scrutiny.

Yayi was also quoted as expressing regret over his involvement in the political process that produced Governor Dapo Abiodun in 2019.

According to the statement, the Senator said he would not have pursued or supported certain political positions in the state if he had known that events would eventually unfold the way they have.

«“If I knew it would be like this, I would not have dragged any position in Ogun,” he was quoted as saying.»

He reportedly further drew a distinction between Ogun and Lagos politics, warning against approaching Ogun State as though it were an extension of Lagos.

«“Ogun is not Lagos. No man’s land,” he was quoted as saying.»

The remarks have triggered discussions within political circles in the state, particularly over the evolution of relationships among politicians who played prominent roles in the 2019 political realignment.

Yayi was a prominent figure in the political process that preceded the 2019 governorship election in Ogun, when the APC faced internal divisions and competing tendencies over its governorship ticket.

His reported comments have therefore renewed attention on the political calculations, alliances and decisions that shaped the emergence of Abiodun and the subsequent configuration of political power in the state.

The Senator’s reference to previously hidden activities being exposed has also generated speculation among political observers about the specific events and decisions he was referring to.

However, the circulating statement did not, in the portion available, identify the particular “hidden” actions or secrets allegedly being exposed, leaving the context of that aspect of his remarks open to interpretation.

The reported comments could further deepen conversations within the Ogun political space as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
