Paul Ibe, the spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has reignited calls for full transparency regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s history, insisting that Nigerians deserve to know the truth behind allegations surrounding the president’s past, including issues related to alleged drug trafficking and academic records.

In a post via 𝕏 (formerly Twitter), Ibe stressed the urgency of disclosing President Tinubu’s records, particularly the widely referenced forfeiture case in the United States and his certificate from Chicago State University.

“Just about time, the records of Tinubu, including his forfeiture of funds for alleged drugs trafficking and certificate at Chicago State University @ChicagoState, are made public,” Ibe wrote.

“The Black nation’s most populous country does not deserve a leader with a tainted past. Whatever is being hidden must be unveiled. Nigerians and the rest of the world deserve to know. There must be full disclosure.”

The comments come in the wake of a U.S. District Court order in Washington, D.C., compelling the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to disclose documents relating to President Tinubu.

Judge Beryl Howell issued the ruling on Tuesday, siding with Aaron Greenspan, an American transparency advocate who filed a motion seeking a review of an earlier decision. Greenspan argued that the FBI had violated the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by failing to release materials concerning alleged federal investigations into Tinubu and one Abiodun Agbele.

Judge Howell described the FBI’s withholding of the documents as “neither logical nor plausible,” setting the stage for potential new revelations that could further stoke political debate in Nigeria.

This development could have wide-reaching implications, as opposition figures continue to question the legitimacy and integrity of Tinubu’s presidency, despite his administration’s continued insistence on compliance with Nigerian and international law.

As of press time, the Presidency has not officially responded to the renewed calls for transparency or the U.S. court ruling.
