SANWO-OLU, FAMILY, LASG OFFICIALS HONOUR LATE DEPUTY CHIEF OF STAFF ONE YEAR AFTER PASSING

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside family members, state officials, and dignitaries, will today attend the one-year remembrance and thanksgiving service in honour of the late Mr. Gboyega Soyannwo, the former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Lagos State.

The memorial service, taking place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), The Covenant House, Victoria Island, marks a poignant moment in remembrance of a man widely described as loyal, selfless, and deeply committed to public service.

Late Mr. Soyannwo passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, following a brief illness, at the age of 55. He was laid to rest on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, after a funeral service at RCCG City of David Parish, also in Victoria Island.


Governor Sanwo-Olu: “Gboyega is Gone, But Never Forgotten”

In a heartfelt tribute, Governor Sanwo-Olu reflected on the late Soyannwo’s enduring legacy and invaluable contributions to the administration and the people of Lagos State.

“Gboyega Soyannwo was more than a Deputy Chief of Staff; he was my brother, my armour-bearer, my confidante, and a faithful believer in our collective dream of a Greater Lagos,” the Governor said.

“Though Gboyega is no longer with us, his total dedication, humility, and service to Lagos State will never be forgotten. His memory remains vivid in our hearts because of the remarkable and positive impact he made in his lifetime.”

Sanwo-Olu also expressed deep sympathy and continued prayers for Soyannwo’s widow, Mrs. Yewande Soyannwo, their children, and the extended family, urging them to take solace in his legacy of integrity, faith, and public service.

A Legacy of Devotion and Impact

Gboyega Soyannwo served as Deputy Chief of Staff from the beginning of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s first term in 2019 until his passing. He was widely respected within the Lagos State civil service and political circles for his commitment to effective governance, discretion, and loyalty.

The one-year memorial service is expected to be attended by top government functionaries, political associates, clergy, friends, and family members, all united in celebrating the life of a man who left an indelible mark on Lagos State.
