Sanwo-Olu Rewards LASU’s Best Graduating Student with ₦10 Million
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has awarded a cash prize of ₦10 million to Miss Isioma Sybil Nwosu, the Overall Best Graduating Student of Lagos State University (LASU) for the 2023/2024 academic session.
Nwosu, who earned a 4.93 CGPA from the Department of Biochemistry, was celebrated during LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo campus.
Speaking through his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of education in driving innovation and national development, urging leaders to prioritize academic excellence alongside other thriving sectors like entertainment and sports.
“Education is the backbone of our society… We must ensure it provides innovative solutions to real-life problems,” the Governor said.
The convocation also featured the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on key personalities including NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), and former Lagos Deputy Governor Otunba Olufemi Pedro, while Prof. Joseph Olagunju was named a Distinguished Professor.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and improving the welfare of students and staff through youth-focused initiatives like Job Initiative Lagos (JIL).
In total, 11,917 graduates across diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes were conferred with degrees at the ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello lauded the state government for its unwavering support and noted several academic milestones, including the successful accreditation of 43 out of 44 programmes and the launch of international postgraduate studies under the Africa Centre of Excellence.
Chancellor Prof. Gbolahan Elias (SAN) urged the graduates to become ambassadors of excellence, creativity, and innovation.
“You represent not just yourselves but the legacy of this great institution,” he charged.
LASU continues to cement its position as a leading institution, drawing national and international recognition under the visionary leadership of Prof. Olatunji-Bello.
