There is urgent need for the Apex Bank in Nigeria and other bodies that regulates banking activities in the country to withdraw operating licenses of some banks or how would one describe the unbecoming act of Sterling Bank and the way they are treating their customers.
The treatment meted out to the customers of Sterling Bank today is the peak of inhuman action that has ever been done to customers in the history of financial institutions in the country. Imagine after altering your weekend plans for with failed transaction, money disappearance and many terrible bank related issues and while you are waiting to complain to the bank customer care, you were whipped by a Mobile Policeman attached to the bank on the order of one of the bank’s staff.
This is exactly what Sterling Bank did to customers who had trooped to the bank due to various reasons that range from illegal deduction, failed transactions and many more that they faced over the weekend but to their surprises the Officer in charge a lady with name tag Abosede Olaitan ordered the policemen attached to the branch in Challenge area of Ibadan to whip and also threaten customers with guns and arrest.
It is general knowledge that the economic situation of things in the country is very though, Sterling Bank out personal negligence allowed their system to collapse and thereby leaving many stranded without access to their money kept with the bank over the weekend and in seeking answers to the issue expecially since money were deducted from the account of many that has not gotten to the destination more than 48 hours after.
Sterling Bank Abosede decided she must use force to chase the mostly market women customers away. This is coming at a time the country is trying to encourage a cashless community and it is a very shameful act by the bank that may force most of the affected to lose faith in the cashless plans of the apex bank.
