Governor Dauda Lawal Emerges APC Consensus Governorship Candidate for Zamfara 2027 Election

Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has signed a peace accord ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging politicians and youths to shun violence and embrace peaceful political participation.

The accord was signed at the Nigeria Police headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, at the invitation of the police. The exercise brought together candidates contesting in the forthcoming elections.

Speaking with journalists after the signing, Lawal described himself as a peace-loving person and expressed optimism that the 2027 elections would be conducted without violence.

“We need to understand where we are and the responsibility on us that are running for the election,” the governor said.

He urged youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment trouble, warning against carrying weapons or engaging in activities capable of threatening public peace during campaigns and elections.

“It is important to know that violence is not the way forward; going round carrying weapons is not the way forward. We should be able to conduct ourselves peacefully during the campaign and election period,” he said.

The governor also appealed to politicians across the country to abide by the law, stressing that responsible conduct would help ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

With political activities gradually gathering momentum ahead of 2027, Lawal emphasised the need to prioritise peace, unity and the safety of citizens over political rivalry, intimidation and division.

Meanwhile, supporters of the governor expressed confidence that his administration’s achievements would count in his favour, arguing that good governance and the dividends of democracy should not be taken for granted.

They maintained that continuity would enable Zamfara State to consolidate the gains recorded under Lawal’s administration and sustain its development efforts.

The peace accord comes amid growing calls for political actors to ensure that the 2027 general elections are defined by issue-based campaigns, credible processes and the will of the electorate rather than violence and intimidation.
