The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr. Oluwatoyin Taiwo, has pledged to prioritise education, youth empowerment, agriculture, healthcare and infrastructure if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Taiwo, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, said his proposed legislative agenda would focus on addressing the developmental challenges facing the constituency through effective representation, strategic engagement with federal institutions and sustained advocacy for projects that would improve residents’ welfare.

He spoke during the concluding phase of his Back-to-School Initiative, under which he distributed exercise books, school sandals and socks to pupils and students in selected schools across Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The initiative began in Ipokia Local Government Area about a month earlier before being extended to Yewa South, covering the two local government areas that make up the federal constituency.

Taiwo said the programme was designed to ease the financial burden on parents, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and ensure that pupils had access to essential learning materials.

He also pledged to provide new school uniforms for all pupils of Jaja Community Primary School, while identifying assistance with General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination fees for students from low-income households as another priority under his proposed education programme.

The APC candidate said he would also advocate improved school infrastructure and expanded access to quality education across the constituency.

During visits to schools, Taiwo interacted with teachers and administrators to identify challenges affecting teaching and learning, including inadequate infrastructure and poor access roads.

He promised to channel the concerns to relevant government agencies and pursue appropriate legislative interventions, stressing that effective representation must go beyond political promises to include facilitating projects and monitoring their implementation.

On agriculture, Taiwo pledged to advocate better access to farm inputs, modern equipment, mechanisation, financing and markets for farmers across Ipokia and Yewa South.

According to him, supporting farmers to increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses and improve earnings would strengthen food security, stimulate rural economies and create employment opportunities for young people.

He also identified vocational training, digital skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support and improved access to jobs as key components of his proposed youth empowerment programme.

Market women, widows and other vulnerable groups, he added, would be considered under his planned economic inclusion initiatives.

On healthcare and infrastructure, Taiwo said he would engage relevant federal ministries, departments and agencies to attract development projects to the constituency, particularly in communities where poor roads and inadequate essential services impede economic and social activities.

He also expressed interest in pursuing development opportunities around Tongeji Island, including credible assessments of its reported natural resource potential and the exploration of viable projects through appropriate regulatory channels.

Taiwo maintained that effective representation in the National Assembly involved more than participating in debates, noting that lawmakers also had responsibilities in legislation, oversight, budgetary advocacy, constituency engagement and monitoring government projects.

He expressed confidence that his experience in public administration and policy coordination would help him engage relevant institutions and pursue development opportunities for the constituency if elected.

The former Chief of Staff also commended Governor Abiodun for his administration’s investments in education and infrastructure, saying stronger collaboration between federal and state governments could improve access to development programmes and projects.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Bayo Orebiyi, commended Taiwo for the Back-to-School Initiative, describing it as a timely intervention amid the economic difficulties confronting many families.

Orebiyi said affordable, quality education remained a fundamental responsibility of government and would feature prominently in his own legislative agenda.

The Principal of Itolu Community High School, Mrs. Mobolaji Oluwakemi Adegoke, also appreciated Taiwo for donating exercise books, school sandals and socks, assuring him that teachers would complement the intervention through dedicated teaching and efforts to improve students’ academic performance.

Schools visited during the exercise included Yewa South Primary School, Ijana; Itolu Community High School, Ilaro; Jaja Community Primary School; Yewa South Local Government School, Awuko Alagbon; Yewa South Primary School, Elekute; Yewa High School, Ajilete; and St. James Primary School, Oke Odan.

Taiwo’s proposed agenda places education, agriculture, youth empowerment, healthcare and infrastructure at the centre of his campaign for the Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
