NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Fake ORACIRE+ Toothpaste, Warns Nigerians

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised the alarm over the circulation of a suspected counterfeit toothpaste, ORACIRE+ Toothpaste, being distributed in Nigeria under the guise of the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste.

In an alert issued on September 14, 2026, NAFDAC said the warning followed a formal complaint and market intelligence report concerning the widespread distribution of the suspected counterfeit product.

The agency disclosed that its market surveillance team discovered the product at Ojuwoye Market, Mushin, Lagos, where the suspected fake toothpaste was found to closely resemble the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste in packaging design and overall presentation.

According to NAFDAC, the similarity in appearance could make it difficult for unsuspecting consumers to distinguish the counterfeit product from the genuine one.

The regulatory agency warned that the suspected counterfeit toothpaste may not meet established quality and safety standards and could therefore pose potential health risks to consumers.

NAFDAC said it has commenced surveillance activities and directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to investigate the availability and distribution of the suspected counterfeit product in their respective areas.

The officials were also instructed to take appropriate regulatory action where violations are established.

The agency urged consumers, distributors, retailers and healthcare providers to exercise caution when purchasing ORACARE+ Toothpaste.

It advised Nigerians to purchase toothpaste and other regulated products only from reputable and authorised outlets, while carefully checking product packaging and the source of supply before making purchases.

NAFDAC further urged consumers and healthcare providers to report suspected sales or distribution of the counterfeit ORACIRE+ Toothpaste to the nearest NAFDAC office.

NAFDAC said continued vigilance by consumers and stakeholders remains critical to preventing potentially unsafe counterfeit products from reaching the public.
