The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has accused the Federal Government of worsening the living conditions of Nigerians through what he described as unrealistic policies and abandoned projects.

Makinde alleged that the government embarked on ambitious projects and initiatives without ensuring their completion or delivering tangible benefits to citizens.

The Press Nigeria reports that he spoke at the MakindeDaura 2027 Presidency South-South Town Hall meeting held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The APM presidential candidate cited the proposed superhighway, the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the naira-for-crude arrangement as examples of initiatives he claimed had failed to deliver the expected relief to Nigerians.

“You cannot keep complicating the lives of Nigerians with unrealistic policies and projects. Everything from them is mega. They want to do a super highway, there is Presidential Initiative for CNG, it came to nothing. Naira for crude came to nothing. Has it translated to lower cost of transportation for millions of Nigerians?” Makinde asked.

He also criticised the government’s approach to petroleum pricing, arguing that policies affecting fuel costs and the wider economy should be supported by clear explanations and transparent figures.

Makinde called on the Federal Government to publish its pricing template, insisting that Nigerians should be able to scrutinise the figures and understand how the policy framework would affect their livelihoods.

“So, now they said they want to modulate the price of petroleum products, they want to modulate the lives of millions of Nigerians, they want to modulate the destiny of the most populous black nation on the face of the earth,” he said.

The APM candidate argued that providing a transparent pricing framework would allow experts and members of the public to assess the assumptions behind the government’s policies and suggest practical ways to improve their outcomes.

“Provide for Nigerians your pricing template, we will see Nigerians that can tell us how to make it work for millions of Nigerians.

“So don’t complicate things and say, this policy, that policy. Give us the template. Once we have the template, we can point out the real figures and tell you how to make it to work for millions of Nigerians,” Makinde added.

His remarks come amid continuing public debate over fuel prices, transportation costs and the impact of economic reforms on household incomes.
