Makinde’s Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, Resigns Amid Exodus from Oyo Government
Honourable Segun Ogunwuyi, Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has resigned from his appointment, marking another high-profile departure from the governor’s administration.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation letter, dated October 12, 2026, stated that his decision would take immediate effect.
In the letter addressed to Governor Makinde, the former Chief of Staff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Oyo State Government and its people, describing his time in office as a fulfilling experience.
“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote.
Ogunwuyi praised the administration’s achievements, saying he was proud to have been part of the team responsible for advancing the state’s growth and development.
“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration.
“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State,” the letter stated.
He further expressed confidence in the state’s continued progress, while reaffirming his loyalty to Oyo State and Nigeria.
“As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State.
“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, is among several political appointees and associates of Governor Makinde reported to have left the administration in the past two months.
His resignation comes amid growing attention on the succession of departures from the Oyo State Government and their possible implications for the political calculations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
However, Ogunwuyi did not disclose any specific reason for his resignation in the letter, and it remains unclear whether his decision is connected to the reported departures of other officials.
The latest development is expected to generate further political discussions about the state of affairs within Makinde’s administration and the future plans of some of its former key officials.
