Gadanya, Salisu, Mustapha to Remain Out of Office for Another Three Months as Probe Continues**

The Kano State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of three local government chairmen for another three months as investigations into allegations of financial misappropriation, abuse of office and other acts of misconduct against them continue.

The lawmakers also approved an additional three-month extension of the mandate of the ad hoc committee investigating the allegations to enable it to conclude its assignment and submit its findings.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Shawai.

The Assembly had initially granted the investigative committee three months to examine the allegations against the affected council chairmen and submit its report.

However, following the expiration of the initial deadline, the lawmakers approved another three months, citing the need to allow the committee sufficient time to review the petitions, complete its investigation and present its findings.

The affected chairmen are Bello Abdullahi Gadanya of Bagwai Local Government Area, Dr Alhassan Salisu of Bebeji Local Government Area and Abubakar Mustapha of Rogo Local Government Area.

They were initially suspended over allegations bordering on financial misappropriation, abuse of office and other alleged misconduct.

The latest decision means the three council bosses will remain away from their official responsibilities pending the conclusion of the legislative investigation.

### Assembly Also Suspends Lawmaker Over Alleged Insult to Governor

The latest development comes barely two weeks after the Assembly suspended Yusuf Bello Aliyu, who represents Nassarawa Local Government Area, for three months over alleged insulting remarks directed at Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The suspension was announced during plenary on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following controversy surrounding a viral video showing the lawmaker holding a rabbit by its ears while making comments reportedly considered offensive to the governor.

The Assembly subsequently directed Aliyu to stay away from all legislative activities throughout the suspension period.

Before taking the decision, the lawmakers had indicated their intention to invite him to explain his conduct and address the controversy generated by the video.

Speaking after the plenary session, Lawan Hussaini Dala said the suspended legislator was expected to appear before the Assembly and tender a public apology to Governor Yusuf.

The two developments have placed the Kano State House of Assembly’s disciplinary and oversight activities in focus, with the extended investigation into the three local government chairmen expected to determine the next steps in the allegations against them.
