Uokha Grammar School, the only secondary school serving Uokha Community in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, has reportedly deteriorated into ruins, raising concerns over the state of public education and government investment in rural communities.

The reported condition of the school has sparked questions about the impact of the $75 million World Bank education loan secured under the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki and the utilisation of public funds under the incumbent Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Despite the reported loan and more than ₦145 billion in state revenue under Okpebholo, the school is said to remain in a deplorable condition, leaving residents concerned about the future of secondary education in the community.

As the only secondary school in Uokha, its deterioration could further undermine access to quality education for children who depend on the facility.

The situation raises questions about the distribution of education funds, the implementation of World Bank-supported interventions and the government’s commitment to rehabilitating public schools in rural communities.

Residents and education stakeholders will be seeking explanations from the Edo State Government on why a school serving an entire community has reportedly been allowed to deteriorate despite the substantial financial resources attributed to successive administrations.

The central question remains: What impact have the education funds and state revenues made on schools such as Uokha Grammar School?
