The Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to reopen Nigeria’s land borders and restore longstanding bilateral relations with neighbouring African countries if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made the pledge while officially flagging off his presidential campaign in Sokoto State, where he outlined his commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and improving Nigeria’s relationship with neighbouring countries.

The former Vice-President said reopening the borders would form part of his administration’s efforts to promote cross-border trade, strengthen economic ties and restore longstanding relationships between Nigeria and other African nations.

Bashir Ibrahim Nababa reports that the ADC presidential standard-bearer made the commitment during the campaign flag-off, as he sought support for his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
