Atiku Warns Tinubu Over Son’s Alleged Assault on NANS President: “Nigeria Is Not a Private Estate”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a strong warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to call his son, Seyi Tinubu, to order amid serious allegations of assault, abduction, and intimidation leveled by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Atiku Isah.
In a statement released on Friday through his media aide, Paul Ibe, Atiku condemned the reported actions of the president’s son as “deeply alarming” and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy and civil liberties. The statement, titled “Tinubu Must Call His Family to Order: Nigeria Is Not a Private Estate,” warned that such behavior, if left unchecked, could undermine the very foundations of democratic governance.
“These allegations — involving physical assault, abduction, and inducement — strike at the core of our democratic values,” Atiku said. “It is unacceptable for the first family to deploy coercion, threats, or bribery to subdue civil society voices.”
Comrade Isah, in his accusations, claimed he was targeted following his public criticism of government policies affecting students. He alleged that Seyi Tinubu was directly involved in his ordeal.
Atiku rejected any attempt to link him personally to Comrade Isah’s actions, clarifying that his recent meeting with the student leader focused solely on education reform and student welfare. “The young man’s advocacy should be judged on its own merit, not politicized through false associations,” he added.
Calling for an independent investigation into the incident, Atiku accused state agencies of failing in their duty to protect citizens and warned against any attempt to silence dissenting voices through intimidation.
“We issue a clear warning: nothing must happen to this young man. Any harm to him will not go unnoticed or unchallenged,” he declared.
Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to democracy, justice, and the rule of law, stating that “Nigerians deserve a leadership that protects civil rights, not one that weaponizes power against its people.”
