AYEMI BRIDGE: YOUTHS SHUT ROAD, DEMAND END TO PERENNIAL FLOODING

Angry youths on Monday barricaded the Ayemi Bridge in Ado-Ekiti, protesting the Ekiti State Government’s failure to provide a lasting solution to the flooding that repeatedly disrupts life and business in the area.

The protesters blocked vehicular movement as they demanded urgent intervention over the recurring inundation of the bridge and surrounding communities during the rainy season.

They said the situation has persisted despite repeated complaints, appeals and assurances of government intervention, leaving residents to contend with damaged property, disrupted businesses and dangerous road conditions whenever heavy rains occur.

The youths called for the immediate reconstruction of the bridge, alongside proper drainage and stormwater channelisation, insisting that the problem requires a permanent engineering solution rather than temporary measures.

They questioned why an infrastructure problem that has persisted for years has yet to receive a durable solution from the state government.

The protest disrupted traffic around the area, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.

The youths urged the Ekiti State Government to act urgently and address the structural and drainage problems responsible for the flooding before the situation causes further damage or loss of life.
