The Federal Government has confirmed a case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, with 44 people identified as potentially exposed to the infected patient.

The case involves a woman who recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda.

According to reports of the government’s announcement on Tuesday, laboratory tests confirmed the infection after the woman had spent several days receiving medical attention at a private hospital in the FCT.

Following the confirmation, health authorities commenced contact tracing to identify and monitor people who may have come into contact with the patient, while intensifying surveillance to prevent further transmission.

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the FCT Health Services Secretariat are coordinating the response to contain the infection and minimise the risk of further spread.

Authorities are also providing support to the hospital where the patient received treatment to strengthen infection prevention and control measures.

The Federal Government has urged public and private healthcare facilities across the country to remain on high alert and promptly identify and isolate suspected cases.

Healthcare providers have also been directed to observe strict infection prevention protocols and immediately report suspected infections to the relevant public health authorities.

The government’s response is aimed at ensuring early detection, effective contact tracing and rapid containment to prevent a wider outbreak.

Members of the public are advised to follow official guidance from health authorities and seek information from credible public health sources.
