A Kano-based tailor, Abdulkadir Hassan, has completed a 120-hour sewing marathon in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest sewing marathon.

Hassan spent five consecutive days sewing, transforming his ambitious record attempt into a charitable initiative aimed at supporting education and helping underprivileged children in his community.

During the challenge, he produced school uniforms for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, using his tailoring skills to ease some of the financial burdens faced by families struggling to provide basic educational necessities.

Beyond the quest for global recognition, the initiative highlights how individual talents and local enterprise can be deployed to address social challenges, particularly barriers to education.

However, the completion of the 120-hour challenge does not automatically guarantee a Guinness World Record. The attempt would need to satisfy the organisation’s applicable guidelines and undergo verification before any new record could be officially recognised.

If validated, Hassan’s achievement would place his name among Nigerians seeking international recognition through extraordinary endurance, creativity and community service.

His effort also sends a powerful message that record-breaking ambitions can go beyond personal achievement to create meaningful social impact, especially for children whose access to education is constrained by poverty.
