Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has sworn in five new Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service, charging them to uphold the Public Service Rules, financial regulations and other relevant laws in the discharge of their duties.

The Press Nigeria reports that the swearing-in ceremony took place on Thursday at the Grand Chamber of the Government House in Gusau, with the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, Justice Kulu Aliyu, administering the oath of office.

The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Ahmad S. Zamfara, Nasiru Halilu Anka, Mu’azu Jibril Guraguri, Adamu Abdullahi Kanoma and Sani Muhammad Shinkafi.

During the ceremony, the appointees pledged allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and swore to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution and the law.

Speaking at the event, Lawal congratulated the new Permanent Secretaries, describing their appointments as recognition of their experience, competence and readiness to take on greater responsibilities.

He stressed that their positions went beyond personal career advancement, noting that their decisions and conduct would directly influence government performance and the welfare of the people.

According to the governor, Permanent Secretaries play critical roles in providing administrative leadership, ensuring institutional continuity, advising on policy implementation, maintaining discipline and ensuring that public resources are used for their intended purposes.

Lawal reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening government institutions, reforming public administration and improving the delivery of essential services across the state.

He urged the appointees to align their activities with the government’s development priorities, emphasising the importance of proper planning, realistic implementation strategies, effective supervision and regular assessment of results.

The governor also called on the new Permanent Secretaries to maintain professional relationships with commissioners and other political officeholders, stressing the need for mutual respect and cooperation between political leaders and career civil servants.

He explained that while political officeholders were responsible for setting policy directions, career civil servants provided the institutional knowledge, technical advice and administrative capacity required to translate government policies into tangible results.

Lawal said effective collaboration between both groups was essential to achieving the administration’s development goals and improving the lives of Zamfara residents.
