Sanwo-Olu Mourns Veteran Actor Taiwo Hassan, Ogogo, at 66

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing at the age of 66 as a painful and heartbreaking loss.

Sanwo-Olu, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, expressed sympathy to Ogogo’s family, friends, colleagues, fans and the wider Nigerian entertainment industry.

The governor described the late actor as an exceptional talent whose decades of performances not only entertained audiences but also reflected societal realities and shaped values across generations.

“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, was a bundle of talent, who used his God-given gift to better mankind. As an actor, he brought smiles to many faces through his roles in various movies,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He added that Ogogo’s contribution to Nigerian cinema went beyond entertainment, noting that the actor “mirrored the society, moulded character and left a lasting impact in many generations of film lovers.”

Sanwo-Olu said the actor’s death had created a significant vacuum in the creative industry, stressing that his legacy would remain indelible.

“The death of a loved one is naturally painful because it is irreplaceable, but we must always seek solace in God, especially when the deceased lived a fulfilled life, like the late Taiwo Hassan, who was a celebrated actor in his lifetime,” he said.

The governor urged Ogogo’s family, colleagues and admirers to draw strength from the remarkable life and career he left behind.

“Ogogo’s death is a profound loss to his family, colleagues, the entertainment industry, and Nigeria. His departure has created a vacuum that will take time to fill in the entertainment sector. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, fans, and colleagues,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He prayed for the late actor’s soul to find eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus and for God to grant his family, friends and colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
