Six Female Engineers Gets 70 million Naira Grant To Commercialize R&D Results- NASENI
The initiative to develop Female Engineers to become leaders in practice and entrepreneurship-an initiative of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT) & the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) received a boost today in Abuja as six (6) Female Engineers were handed a total sum of N70.5 million grant, being the successful applicants under the Delt-Her programme.
In March 2024, during the Launch of the Delt-Her call for proposals, the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu said that the programme was an “Opportunity platform”, through which girls and young women can pitch and present their exciting and groundbreaking engineering ideas for funding by NASENI through PICTT. The intention of NASENI and PICTT is to close the gender gaps in engineering, inspire the next generation, provide financing support for new ideas and projects, and ultimately to strengthen the entire engineering ecosystem.
The six winners who received the grants today, going forward, are expected to translate their research and development results into actual products aimed at impacting directly on the economy.
The EVC/CEO, represented by the Coordinating Director Planning and Business Development, Dr. Noyem Onyechi said, “The six projects were outstanding out of 120 proposals received and have earned their place. The female engineers by this act have challenged the status quo, demonstrating through their various projects the potential to solve real-world problems in ways that make a lasting impact. The EVC said the event was not just for awarding grants; but the planting of seeds for the future, and to put it simply, we are watching history in the making”.
The six awardees in different areas of engineering and projects include:
a) Engr. Rukkaya Abdulmutalib- who has her project in Artificial Intelligence sensored Machine to monitor soil health for green-house.
b) Patience Ibrahim-Janda-who has her project in Automobile brake pads produced from organic waste.
c) Engr. Amina Ibrahim Khaleel-Drone for intelligent real time security and target tracking.
d) Engr. Dr. Kudirat Oyewumi Jimoh-Electronic training board/device for science and engineering students.
e) Engr. Dr. Ikechukwu Ijeoma Francisca-Automatic Bambara flour Processing machine, and
f) Engr. Abisola Ayomide Olayiwola-Solar-powered snail shelling machine.
