Umahi’s Son, 28, Emerges Ohaozara Council Chairman, Vows to Forgo Salary

Osborn Nweze Umahi, 28-year-old son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has emerged chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Umahi, who contested the local government election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victory after a campaign focused on grassroots mobilisation, economic development and improved local administration.

Shortly after being declared winner, the new council chairman announced that he would forgo his salary and allowances throughout his tenure.

He said the decision was aimed at ensuring that resources meant for the development of Ohaozara are channelled towards projects and services that directly benefit residents rather than personal financial gains.

Umahi also pledged to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, job and economic opportunities, as well as improved service delivery across the local government.

During his campaign, the younger Umahi presented himself as a representative of a new generation of politicians, promising to introduce private-sector thinking, efficiency and innovation into grassroots administration.

He stressed the need to strengthen local governance and tackle the economic and social challenges confronting residents, while pledging to make the council more responsive to the needs of the people.
