Why Richard Mofe-Damijo Is Nollywood’s Best Actor
Since the advent of acting in Nigeria, the movie industry has witnessed several actors who have done well in the thespian environment but none has surpassed the achievements of Richard Evans Eyimofe-Damijo professionally known as RMD.
The veteran Nollywood star is unarguably the best in the movie business in Nigeria and he is known for the charismatic roles he plays in Nigerian movies.
The Warri-born actor started acting in the late 80s, he took part in the very popular television series called Ripples. The actor and former politician also featured in another series on TV called Checkmate in which he starred alongside notable actors such as Ego Boyo, Francis Agu, and Bob Manuel-Odokwu among others. He played the role of the popular Segun Kadiri, from that set, RMD began to etch his name in the movie industry hall of fame.
He took acting to a different level, with him on a movie project, there is a money-back guarantee the movie would sell or even be a household name. He has starred alongside prominent actors like Olu Jacobs, Pete Edochie, Segun Arinze, Genevieve Nnaji, Stella Damasus, Regina Askia, Bimbo Akintola, and Liz Benson, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Joke Silva, Stephanie Okereke, the list goes on.
He took a break from acting to study law at the University of Lagos where he bagged a law degree and in the year 2009, Richard Mofe-Damijo was appointed as the Special Adviser of Culture and Tourism to the then Governor of Delta State, Emmanuel Uduaghan in 2008, after which he became the commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, with his tenure ending in 2015.
After his foray into politics ended, he went back again into acting and a few television series to go with it. He played a prominent role in Mo Abudu’s blockbuster films, Wedding Party 1 and 2, a film he acted alongside Ace Humourist Alibaba, Iretiola Doyle, Sola Sobowale, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W among others, the movie sold out at the Nigerian cinemas.
After making a comeback into the movie industry in Nigeria, Damijo has gone on to feature in hits like The Grudge with Funmi Holder and Iretiola Doyle, 30 Days In Atlanta by Ayo Makun, 10 Days In Sun City also by Ayo Makun, God Calling and others.
Damijo who is also a public relations Consultant is one of the few in Nigeria who has excelled in the movie world. The actor who is in his 60s is also a brand influencer and a creative Fire-brand personality. He has written for several prestigious newspapers and publications including Concord and Guardian.
In his early 30s, he published Nigeria’s first all-gloss magazine for men, ‘MISTER’ which he sold for millions. A man of many parts, RMD is a writer, lawyer, creative content creator, producer, life coach, public speaker, and showbiz impresario amongst other talents.
While the movie industry has witnessed a host and diverse range of actors and actresses in more than 3o years, none has equaled let alone surpassed what Richard Mofe-Damijo has achieved in the Nigerian movie space.
