Zenith Bank Plc has commemorated the 2026 World Environment Day with a two-phase environmental clean-up exercise in Lagos State, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.

The initiative, held under the global theme: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, brought together staff of the bank, environmental agencies, and community stakeholders to promote cleaner surroundings and climate-conscious behaviour.

The first phase of the exercise took place on Wednesday along Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, where staff of Zenith Bank Plc participated in a street clean-up campaign. Employees cleared waste, engaged residents on proper waste disposal practices, and reinforced the bank’s drive for community service and environmental stewardship.

The second phase was conducted on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Falomo Waterways in Ikoyi. The exercise focused on waterways clean-up and was carried out in collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA). The joint operation targeted the removal of marine debris while promoting cleaner waterways and supporting Lagos State’s broader climate resilience efforts.

Speaking on the initiative, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank, Dr. Adaora Umeoji, said sustainability remains central to the bank’s operations.

She noted that environmental protection is a shared responsibility, adding that the clean-up exercises reflect the bank’s commitment to taking practical action in safeguarding communities and encouraging collective climate action.

Dr. Umeoji further stated that Zenith Bank will continue to align its operations with global environmental standards as part of efforts to build a more sustainable future for Nigeria and the African continent.
