2027: Northern Leaders, Traditional Rulers Back Tinubu’s Re-election, Yari Declares
Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), has declared that Northern political leaders, traditional rulers, Islamic clerics and other influential stakeholders are backing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
Yari made the declaration on Saturday during the official flag-off of the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna, attended by Tinubu, APC governors, party leaders and thousands of supporters.
Describing Kaduna as the “spiritual centre of politics in Northern Nigeria,” the former Zamfara State governor said the choice of the state for the campaign launch reflected the region’s political significance and strategic importance to the ruling party.
He disclosed that the APC had consulted traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, imams and community leaders across Northern Nigeria to consolidate support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“We have engaged our traditional rulers, our ulama, our imams, and critical stakeholders across Northern Nigeria to appreciate the importance of continuity in leadership,” Yari said.
He maintained that Tinubu’s re-election was necessary to sustain ongoing reforms, strengthen national unity and preserve peace and stability.
“We are solidly behind you in Northern Nigeria, and by the grace of God, we will demonstrate that support at the polls in 2027,” he assured the President.
Yari Defends Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
Defending the administration’s economic policies, Yari acknowledged the initial difficulties associated with some reforms but argued that they were beginning to yield positive results.
He cited fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, improved foreign reserves and efforts to strengthen the naira as indicators of progress towards long-term economic stability.
According to him, the APC would use its campaign to present the administration’s achievements and explain its policies to Nigerians as it seeks another presidential mandate.
“The President took courageous decisions that previous administrations avoided. Today, we are beginning to see encouraging economic indicators that point to a stronger and more resilient economy,” he said.
Accuses Opposition of Spreading Misinformation
Yari also accused opposition elements of using digital platforms and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to spread misinformation about the Tinubu administration, particularly its policies affecting farmers and rural communities.
He urged APC supporters to counter what he described as misleading narratives by providing factual information about government programmes and interventions.
The campaign director-general said the ruling party would focus on presenting verifiable achievements, policy outcomes and future plans rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.
Northern Governors, APC Stakeholders Rally Behind Tinubu
Yari said the presence of governors, party leaders, elected officials and grassroots mobilisers at the Kaduna event demonstrated the ruling party’s unity and the momentum behind Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
However, he urged the President to remain attentive to the concerns and aspirations of Northern Nigerians, stressing the need for inclusive governance.
“We encourage Mr President to pay close attention to the aspirations of Northern Nigeria and ensure that justice, fairness, and equity remain central to government policies and programmes,” he said.
APC Projects Continuity Ahead of 2027
The Kaduna flag-off marks a major campaign mobilisation effort by the APC as it prepares to seek a fresh mandate for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
The ruling party is positioning continuity, economic reforms, stability and national development as central themes of its re-election campaign.
Yari expressed confidence that Northern Nigeria would deliver substantial electoral support for the President, citing consultations with political and community stakeholders across the region.
His declaration sets the tone for the APC’s campaign strategy in the North, a politically significant region whose voting patterns could play a major role in determining the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
