Five people, including four students of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, have reportedly died in a road accident involving a vehicle in Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago’s convoy.

The crash occurred on Monday at Gidan Mangoro in Minna when a Toyota Hilux conveying the Director-General of the Government House, Dauda Chikuba, collided with a vehicle carrying the students.

According to a report by *PUNCH* published on Tuesday, the four students and the driver of the government vehicle died at the scene, while Chikuba was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.

The accident reportedly happened as the governor’s convoy was returning to Minna after a condolence visit to the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Yahaya Abubakar, following the death of Sagi Nupe, Aisha.

The vehicle carrying the students was said to have been travelling towards Bida when the collision occurred.

An eyewitness quoted in the report described the incident as a head-on collision and alleged that the governor’s convoy was travelling at high speed before the crash. The allegation has yet to be independently verified.

Niger State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun, was quoted as confirming that an investigation had commenced.

“The accident occurred this morning, and we are investigating it,” he reportedly said.

Police had yet to release the identities of the deceased or provide further details about the circumstances of the crash.

The deaths of the four university students and the government vehicle’s driver have raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the eyewitness allegation about the convoy’s speed.
