Makinde’s Ex-Chief of Staff,

Former Oyo Government Official Makes Political Appearance Days After Resigning from Makinde’s Cabinet

A former Chief of Staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, has stirred fresh political interest after attending the manifesto presentation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Ogunwuyi’s appearance at the event on Tuesday comes barely weeks after his resignation from Makinde’s cabinet, raising questions about his political direction ahead of the next electoral contest in Oyo State.

The Press Nigeria reports that Alli is the APC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in the state.

Ogunwuyi had resigned his appointment as Chief of Staff to Governor Makinde in October 2026 through a letter dated Monday, October 12, announcing that his resignation would take immediate effect.

Although he did not disclose any specific reason for his decision, the former Chief of Staff expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the achievements of the administration.

In his resignation letter, Ogunwuyi wrote:

“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026.

“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration.

“I remain immensely proud of what we have collectively accomplished in advancing the growth, development and prosperity of our dear State. As I take this decision, I do so with profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, with confidence in the continued progress of Oyo State.

“Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem and unwavering loyalty to Oyo State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

His appearance at the APC candidate’s manifesto presentation has added a new dimension to political conversations surrounding his resignation, particularly as political alignments and consultations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

However, Ogunwuyi has yet to publicly announce his defection to the APC or declare any formal political affiliation following his departure from Makinde’s cabinet.
