Zamfara, XEJet Sign Deal for Gusau-Abuja Commercial Flights

The Zamfara State Government has signed an Air Route Development Partnership Agreement with XEJet Limited to commence scheduled commercial flights between Gusau International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The agreement, signed on Monday, marks a significant step in the state’s efforts to improve air connectivity and create easier access for businesses, investors and visitors.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at a ceremony chaired by the Deputy Governor, Malam Mani Mummuni.

The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammed Nakwada, signed the agreement on behalf of the Zamfara State Government.

Under the agreement, XEJet Limited is expected to commence bi-weekly commercial flights between Abuja and Gusau from next month.

The state government said the new route is expected to enhance accessibility to Zamfara while creating greater opportunities for investment, commerce and tourism.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Governor said the partnership was consistent with the government’s strategic objective of strengthening transportation infrastructure and improving the ease of movement into and out of the state.

He noted that the Gusau International Airport was constructed from scratch and completed within two years, stressing that its primary purpose was to facilitate the movement of people and goods and, ultimately, contribute to economic development.

According to him, the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has been actively engaging international investors and donor agencies interested in investing in Zamfara.

He described the commencement of commercial flight operations as an important milestone that could make the state more accessible to prospective investors.

“Improving the state’s accessibility is our top priority, as it will create a more welcoming environment for business growth and investment,” the Deputy Governor said.

The new Gusau-Abuja air connection is therefore expected to provide a direct commercial link between Zamfara and Nigeria’s federal capital, potentially reducing travel difficulties and strengthening the state’s connection to national business and investment networks.
