Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, has described the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, as a humble and unifying leader whose wisdom, exemplary leadership and commitment to peace have continued to provide stability across Nigeria.

The governor gave the commendation on Monday while attending the 13th Shaikh Usmanu Bin Fodiyo Week and the 20th anniversary of the Sultan’s coronation, held at the International Conference Centre, Sokoto.

The event, themed “Reviving Ethical Leadership and Social Harmony: Lessons from Sokoto Jihad Leaders,” attracted prominent traditional rulers, religious leaders, political officeholders and other distinguished personalities from Nigeria and beyond.

In his goodwill message, Lawal congratulated the Sultan on behalf of the government and people of Zamfara State, describing his two decades on the throne as a remarkable period of service, wisdom and commitment to the unity of the Muslim Ummah and the country at large.

The governor said Zamfara State had continued to draw inspiration from the Sultan’s guidance, humility and steady leadership, particularly during challenging periods marked by insecurity and other social difficulties.

He also expressed appreciation for the Sultan’s recent attendance and support during the coronation and presentation of staff of office to the 19 Emirs in Gusau, noting that his presence demonstrated his commitment to strengthening traditional institutions across the region.

According to Lawal, the enduring legacy of the Sokoto Caliphate goes beyond geographical boundaries, with its principles of knowledge, justice, moral discipline, responsible leadership and respect for human dignity remaining relevant to contemporary society.

He stressed that the teachings of Sheikh Usmanu Dan Fodiyo should serve as a guiding framework for addressing the challenges confronting communities, particularly insecurity, poverty, moral decline and the growing vulnerability of young people.
