Akpabio Reassures Senators After Primary Election Setbacks

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over their reconciliation, describing the return of political peace in the state as important to the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election.

Akpabio spoke on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the APC Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Senate President specifically paid tribute to Fubara for embracing peace, saying the reconciliation between the governor and his predecessor would help the party mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He also praised Wike, insisting that agreements reached with the FCT minister should be respected.

“In the person of Nyesom Wike, agreement is an agreement. Let me, for today, pay a special tribute to the current governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who is here today. I have seen total peace in Rivers State, and it is through this peace that we are going to deliver President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Akpabio said.

Akpabio expressed confidence in Rivers State’s political importance ahead of the 2027 general election, recalling Tinubu’s victory in the state during the 2023 presidential election.

He described Rivers voters as politically conscious, arguing that their previous electoral choices demonstrated their influence in determining the outcome of national elections.

The Senate President also commended Wike’s political influence and performance as FCT minister, saying Rivers State should be proud of the leaders it had produced.

He further praised Tinubu’s political appointments and economic reform agenda, urging Nigerians to support the President’s second-term ambition.

On the removal of the petrol subsidy, Akpabio defended the policy, arguing that it was necessary to address corruption and economic distortions associated with the subsidy regime.

He maintained that Nigeria had remained intact despite the economic difficulties and adjustments that followed the policy.

Akpabio’s remarks place the reconciliation between Fubara and Wike at the centre of the APC’s political mobilisation in Rivers State ahead of 2027.

However, whether the reconciliation will translate into unified political support for Tinubu remains a question for the coming months, particularly as political alignments and voter priorities continue to shape the state’s political landscape.
